Part-time position (25 hrs) for children and youth RE program.   Position begins 08/08. Successful candidate will be an open minded person with strong interpersonal skills. Also required: a true love for children and demonstrable management skills. Education exp a plus, commitment to liberal religious education necessary.

Expectations of the Director of the Religious Education
for the Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills
The Director of Religious Education (DRE) will report directly to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for supervising, maintaining and the continued development of a high quality RE Program. 
The Religious Education Program is an integral part of the Sunnyhill community so the Director of Religious Education (DRE) will be expected to:

  • Work together with the UUCSH Minister in building and maintaining a professional relationship which upholds the mission of the Church
  • Work in a collegial manner with the RE Committee, and all UUCSH staff members. 
  • Work in a friendly and professional manner with the children, parents of the children and  all the Members and Friends of the Sunnyhill community

The Director of Religious Education has the following duties and responsibilities: 
Group I – Highest Priority

  • Participate with the Board of Trustees and the RE Committee to develop measurable goals and outcomes for the RE Program
  • Develop and supervise the UUCSH Religious Program
  • Recruit, train, supervise and support teachers, youth group advisors, and other volunteers.
  • Work collegially with other professional leaders and staff members in the congregation
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with parents, new members, children and youth.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of curricular trends and other UU and religious/spiritual current events and topics
  • Prepare monthly report for Board of Trustees on progress against goals and other important considerations

Group II

  • Develop and /or present church services pertinent to children and youth
  • Keep informed about Sunnyhill and Unitarian-Universalist activities,  policies, mission,  
  • Write and speak effectively
  • Attend monthly Board meetings and other Board related functions
  • Follow UUCSH Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality policies
  • Keep current membership in LREDA (Liberal Religious Educators’ Association)
  • Attend training workshops offered through the Renaissance program to further knowledge and understanding of current UU religious education practices.
