Summary
The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, nationally headquartered in Pittsburgh, seeks an experienced grant writer to help conduct grantor research and secure funding for the purpose of providing research and education for the diagnosis, treatment, and cure of mitochondrial disorders.

The UMDF is a fast-paced and fast growing 501(c) 3 with over 65 Chapters and Groups nationally, and international affiliations.  Since 1997, The UMDF has funded nearly $5 million in research, making it a leading non-governmental contributor of grants focused solely on mitochondrial research.  The UMDF hosts the preeminent international symposium on mitochondrial medicine annually, as well as hosting grand rounds across the nation, exhibiting at medical meetings, and providing education and awareness activities to affected individuals and their families.     

Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have:
A Bachelor’s degree
Technical writing skills
Experience developing, writing, editing, and submitting grant proposals
Proven track record of ability to obtain grant funding
Excellent research skills to identify funding sources for priority projects
Works with managers and fiscal officers to determine goals and objectives, scope, feasibility, funding needs, and narrative justification for budgetary expenditures
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet all proposal requirements
Ability to follow instructions with very small margin of error
Effective time management and organizational skills with a strong sense of urgency for submittal deadlines
Effective stewardship and follow-up reporting skills for all annual grant activity for National headquarters and for Chapters
Maintains a reporting deadline calendar and tracks status of proposals
Ability to research, collect, and decipher data into meaningful statistics

Preferred Qualifications
3-5 years of grant writing experience in health and/or human services
Experience working with foundations, corporations, and government agencies is strongly preferred
