Assistant Director, Business Operations

The Human Resources Department announces the position of Assistant Director, Business Operations reporting to the Director of Business Operations.

Responsibilities include strategic sourcing, supplier management, customer relationship management and cost containment activities; assisting in implementing strategic supplier relationships and alliances that leverage annual spending and rationalize the supplier base to an optimum level; promoting the supplier diversity program and ensuring University-wide product and service agreements provide tangible benefits and value to the institution and are win-win relationships with strategic suppliers and the University; educating University purchasers and supplier representatives on the value of strategic sourcing; supporting of risk management through the evaluation of key exposures at the University and assisting in the development and implementation of best practices and procedures for managing risk and/or executing appropriate risk transfer; assisting in managing major contracts and vendor relationships – understanding agreements, invoicing and payment processing, and tracking managing and improving performance; providing support in the management of various operations and delivery of services which requires daily communications with end users and vendors to identify and resolve problems; and performing related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field required.
  • Five to seven years of experience in purchasing, risk management and auxiliary services or a related field.
  • Accepted certifications in purchasing and/or risk management preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities; strong management and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Outstanding customer service skills; effective analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with personnel from multiple departments, at all levels, to resolve complex business issues.
  • Flexible and comfortable with ambiguity and change.
