Director of Development, Pittsburgh CLO - Pittsburgh, PA
Posted: 4/8/08
This position provides the opportunity to expand an established fundraising program with the preeminent musical theater producing organization in the region. Now in its seventh decade, the CLO reaches over 250,000 people a year with 400+ performances in three theaters; has an extensive education program; and is working with a number of partners locally and nationally to develop new work for the American musical theater. Recognized for the quality of its productions and its sound fiscal management, the CLO is a leader in preserving, promoting and developing the musical theater art form.
BACKGROUND
The CLO began in 1946 as a summer theater presenting operettas. It has grown to be a year-round cultural institution having successfully added a mainstage holiday production; Cabaret Theater programming; an Academy; a number of education and outreach programs; a Construction Center that builds, stores and rents sets; a program to develop new musicals; partnerships with other theaters, producers, local and national organizations; and national touring of CLO productions. It is one of the few theaters of its size and scope that still produces its musicals. A number of nationally recognized theater professionals and Tony Award winners got their early training and professional experience at the CLO and continue to return to the CLO to work as performers, directors, choreographers and designers.
With an annual operating budget of $10+ million, net assets of $9.4 million and no debt, the CLO is fiscally sound. The fundraising effort, which accounts for approximately 20% of the annual operating revenue, is aided by a 75-member Board of Directors and two volunteer support groups – the CLO Guild, an auxiliary organization of primarily women which has been in operation 52 years, and the CLO Ambassadors, a young professionals support group.
