Director of Development, Pirates Charities - Pittsburgh, PA

REPORTS TO: VP, Community and Public Affairs

STATUS: (Regular, Full-Time)

SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the strategic development, planning and execution of Pirates Charities fundraising initiatives and activities that will enable the charity to fulfill its mission.  This position will be responsible for creating numerous efficient and compelling opportunities for donors to support Pirates Charities and to make the experience of giving satisfying and rewarding.  Success will be evaluated annually on established and measurable financial goals.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA Degree in relevant course of study, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years experience in fundraising and grantwriting with proven record of success
  • Two years experience working with boards and volunteers

        Desired:

    • Familiarity with donor database applications

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Develop strategies and tactics to meet or exceed annual revenue projections set forth in the Pirates Charities strategic development plan.
  • Individual donor development - develops and implements systems, strategies and tactics to significantly increase giving by individuals.
  • Corporate donor development - work hand-in-hand with the Pirates Corporate Sales Department to develop and implement systems, strategies and tactics to significantly increase giving by corporations through cause marketing, co-branding, event sponsorship, direct donations and matching donations.
  • Special events - build relationships and earned revenue through Pirates Charities events, development of project goals and associated budgets, seeking corporate and individual sponsors to underwrite costs of events, leverage major donor, corporate and celebrity relationships to maximize revenue, earn revenue through auctions and other similar fundraising techniques.
  • Grants - supply leads, contacts and develop strategies to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with the Pittsburgh foundation community.
  • Research - oversee the research of funding sources and trends to position Pirates Charities ahead of major funding changes or trends.
  • Donor information - monitor all donor information so as to provide statistical analysis to the Pirates Charities BOD and Executive Director.
  • Oversee the development of collateral materials used in support of achieving the financial goals established.
  • Experience with non-profit financial reports, including project budgets, form 990's & audits.
