NFTE, the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship with global headquarters based in New York City, is seeking a Part Time Development Director for our Pittsburgh Program Office.

Organization Background

The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. NFTE teaches entrepreneurship education programs to young people from low-income communities.

NFTE’s strategy for achieving this mission is to form partnerships with schools, universities and community-based organizations, create innovative experiential curricula, train and support teachers and youth workers, and provide supportive alumni services. Since its founding in 1987, NFTE has reached over 185,000 students.  NFTE has active programs in 21 states and 14 countries.

Position

The NFTE Development Director is responsible for assisting the program office Executive Director in the development and implementation of long- and short-term fundraising strategies and overseeing the marketing and planning of major events in order to help the organization meet its annual goals.  Primary fundraising activities include researching individual, foundation and corporate prospects, writing proposals, soliciting event sponsors, submitting reports, and maintaining a timely calendar.  The Development Director will work closely with all members of the program office and headquarters development team.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, develop and implement the program office fundraising plan: including research of funding sources and building strategy.
  • Promote the organization and cultivate relationships with new, prospective donors (individuals, corporations, and foundations).
  • Arrange and attend in-person meetings with donors and key stakeholders.
  • Write, submit, track and follow-up proposals and requests in an effort to raise funds for a variety of areas within the organization, including specific program support and general operating support
  • Conduct spreadsheet analysis on budgets and revenue projections, as well as financial reports to donors.
  • Assist the Executive Director with board development and training.
  • Accountable for all donor relations and fundraising goals.
  • Build and maintain accurate records.
  • Initiate and assist in the coordination of fundraising and cultivation events (e.g., annual breakfast, citywide business plan competition, cocktail reception, etc.).
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of direct mail pieces and electronic communication.
  • Participate in headquarters and local program, strategy, and regular staff meetings, as needed.
  • Oversee public relations (marketing and media) for key events and programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree a plus.
  • Minimum of five years relevant experience
  • Proven familiarity with building and enhancing relationships with corporations and foundations.
  • Team-oriented with a strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus
  • Experience with special events and marketing a plus
  • Experience in working with small non-profits and/or youth development and education organizations a plus
  • Knowledge of program office area funding community a plus
  • Capacity to deal with ambiguity.

The Development Director position is part-time and reports to the Executive Director.

Salary: Competitive, plus a potential for an annual performance bonus.  No relocation expenses will be provided.
