The Organization

Family Services of Western PA is a not-for-profit, diversified social services agency.  In 1912 our ancestors raised money to help victims of the sinking of the Titanic.  During the Great Depression of the 1930’s they delivered 31,000 quarts of milk daily.

Today we have 35 programs in 27 locations and a budget of over $23 million.  Our services are licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and we are accredited by the nationally recognized Council on Accreditation. Our ancestors would be proud!

The Position

This position involves creative professional responsibility for developing and executing Agency research proposals, serving as liaison to the Treatment Access and Outcome Studies (TAOS), a federally funded NIMH initiative in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh, as well as liaison for additional university research partnerships.

The incumbent will take primary responsibility for all Agency research and evaluation and quality assurance activities including the functioning of the Agency’s outcomes evaluation system, which provides input to the planning process by determining the degree to which Agency programs achieve goals and objectives. The incumbent also oversees quality assurance functions including service records and work-life quality. The incumbent will provide leadership in grantsmanship, participate in writing for publications in peer-reviewed journals, and aid in related training.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

  • Directs All Research Activities by:
    • Leading collaborative relationship with the University of Pittsburgh and other universities.
    • Developing research strategies for inclusion in the Agency’s strategic plan.
    • Supervising data staff including data analyst, data entry staff and Utilization Review staff.
    • Preparing and publishing an annual Agency-wide outcomes report and assisting staff to use this report and specific program reports in presentations for funding.
  • Oversees Agency-wide Quality Assurance Activities by
    • Coordinating compliance and utilization review activities.
    • Providing direction for ongoing service records, audit and records on request.
    • Providing direction for quality work-life initiatives and activities.
    • Leading efforts to maintain Agency accreditation.

Qualifications Required                                                 

A Doctor of Philosophy Degree in social work or closely related human service field, with research, program evaluation and outcomes measurement as a primary focus of the preparation for the degree.  Requires established clinical, organizational, and interpersonal skills and substantial research experience, including experience managing federal research projects.
