Family Communications, Inc.
New Media Specialist
(new position)

Founded by Fred Rogers, Family Communications, Inc. (FCI) is a small Pittsburgh-based nonprofit company that creates a wide range of materials dedicated to young children, their families and those who support them. From its roots as the producer of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, it has expanded to design educational materials in many media that support healthy emotional, social, and intellectual growth at all ages, and that embody the philosophy and values of Fred Rogers.

New media already play an important part in the company’s activities: FCI maintains a number of websites, and has increasingly used multimedia in its DVD and online activities.  We’re looking for someone to help us move to the next level .

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Educational Technology, Computer Science, Instructional Systems Design or a related field and have two to three years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • designing and developing blended e-learning solutions, preferably with a knowledge of instructional design principles and practices;
  • website design and maintenance;
  • multimedia production;
  • distance learning and online streaming technologies
  • designing wiki systems and relational databases for internal communication.

FCI uses outside graphic and web design services in many of its projects, but practical knowledge of applications and markup languages is essential.

The New Media Specialist will work closely with other FCI staff in supervising the work of outside contractors for multimedia services on existing projects, as well as bringing new skills in-house.  The Specialist will contribute to the concept and design of multimedia elements of new projects, and ensure that they function as planned and are delivered on-time and on-budget.

FCI offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance and a 401(k) plan.
