Full-Time Assistant Curator for Education:
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Carnegie Museum of Art seeks an Assistant Curator for Education to manage the design and implementation of innovative gallery-studio programs that engage children and families with the Museum’s collections and exhibitions, enhancing curiosity, imagination, creativity, and artistic self-expression. Leads a team of full- and part-time artist-educators. Takes a leadership role in ensuring that children’s programs are integrated into and reflective of departmental and museum strategic priorities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree in art, art education, art history, or museum studies with an emphasis on education required. Must have demonstrated success as an educator with at least four years of work experience in an active museum education department, including some supervisory responsibility. Experience as an exhibiting/practicing artist is desirable. Seeking a creative and innovative thinker who is passionate about the public dimension of museums and for enriching the lives of children through art. Sophisticated knowledge of best practices in art education for children is required, including emphasis on the art-making process. Must be able to inspire and supervise full-time and part-time staff in a multi-tasking, team-oriented environment. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to establish and adhere to project goals, budgets, and deadlines are also essential. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, personal computer, printer, fax, and scanner is required.
