Title: Development Coordinator - WQED Pittsburgh, PA
WQED Multimedia, was founded in 1954 as the nation's first community-supported broadcaster. WQED provides quality products and services to engage, inform, educate and entertain the public within its community and around the world. WQED Pittsburgh is one of the first broadcasters in the country to be fully high-definition (HD) in its studio and field production capabilities. It is the parent company of WQED-TV (PBS), WQED: The Neighborhood Channel; WQED: The Create Channel; WQED fm89.3, WQEJ fm89.7/Johnstown, local and national television and radio productions, WQED Interactive (www.wqed.org); and the WQED Education Department.
The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Development Department. Responsibilities entail maintaining the smooth flow of department operations and function. Assist in special projects as needed.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Produce and mail donor correspondence, including: solicitations, updates, reports, acknowledgments and newsletters.
- Develop and define major and mid-level file segmentation; pull data; Team Approach expertise.
- Coordinate mid and major donor’s acknowledgement mailings.
- Analyze segmented data for accuracy and correct as necessary.
- Delegate and supervise specific duties relating to creation and assembly of mail solicitations.
- Develop and implement more efficient and consistent mailing schedule.
- Team approach expertise.
- Write and produce Business Partners communications.
- Coordinate FM Angels updates.
- Conduct cultivation calls with Producers Society members.
- Assist with on-air fund-raising efforts by serving as Development and Membership department supervisor for both television and radio fund drives (i.e., train and supervise phone operators, tally donations in spreadsheet, update necessary staff of totals, and provide customer service to callers as needed).
- Assist with other fund-raising and related activities with department to contribute to overall departmental success.
- Inform others in fund raising department of development office issues and activities through meetings and reports.
- Volunteer for and participate in organizational committees and events, as needed and able.
- Become familiar with and utilize PBS resources (including those through Internet/computer and periodicals (e.g. Current newsletter).
- Maintain mailing binder (completed checklists and mail reports).

Required education and skills:
- A Bachelors degree is required. Degree in English or equivalent writing skills preferred.
- One to 3 years of administrative experience required.
- This position requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, written communication, analytical, and customer service skills. Incumbent should be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. This position requires computer knowledge of Team Approach, Excel, Word and database experience. This position requires a fair knowledge of PBS and a good understanding of fundraising efforts. Candidate must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
