WILSON COLLEGE
Vice President for Marketing and Communications

Wilson College invites nominations and expressions of interest for the newly created position of Vice President for Marketing and Communications. The vice president joins at an exciting time as the college commits to centralizing the marketing and communications function and to developing and executing a strategic and integrated marketing plan. The vice president reports directly to the president and oversees a staff of five. Working collaboratively with the president as a member of her senior leadership team, the vice president will have the opportunity to build an operation and team that provide strategic marketing and communications direction across the college community.

Founded in 1869 as a rigorous liberal arts college for women, Wilson College continues to lead and innovate among colleges and universities in educating women in the liberal arts and sciences. The January 2009 opening of its new Gold LEED-certified Harry R. Brooks Complex for Science, Mathematics and Technology advanced not only that tradition, but also Wilson’s practice of sustainability. To complement the undergraduate residential women’s college, a continuing education program was founded in 1983 and made Wilson the first college in the region to welcome adult women and men. In 2006, the College began offering master’s degree programs. In the mid-1990s, the College launched its award-winning Women with Children program that provides campus housing year-round to single mothers and their children so that the mother can pursue a bachelor’s degree full time. One of the first of its kind in the nation, this program has been reported on by The New York Times. U.S. News & World Report ranked Wilson 11th overall in the category of best regional colleges in the northern region for 2011-12; this is the ninth consecutive year that Wilson has been recognized in the rankings. Wilson is guided by its Honor Principle, established in 1905 to hold the college community to the highest standards of integrity.

In 2011-12, Wilson is serving 322 women in its undergraduate college and 376 women and men in its adult degree programs. The College’s faculty is comprised of 44 full-time and approximately 40 part-time members. Alumnae/alumni number about 8,000. Located on 300 rolling acres along the Conococheague Creek in Chambersburg, the College is within easy driving distance of Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. In 1995, the Wilson College campus was named a National Historic District.

With demonstrated communications and marketing administrative experience in the higher education, not-for-profit, business and/or public sectors, the candidate must understand, support, and promote the college’s mission and vision. The ideal candidate will have the capacity to build, lead and execute a data-driven, integrated marketing plan for the college’s communications operation and serve all divisions of the college, including enrollment, institutional advancement, academic departments and other administrative departments, and athletics. This position also manages all internal communications, directs the creation of content for the public website, and oversees development and production of publications. Strong management and leadership skills, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and experience in developing and implementing new communications and integrated marketing strategies, in addition to brand management and social and online media experience, are essential. Candidates should possess qualities of character and values that resonate with Wilson’s mission and culture of collaboration and must have the presence to represent the college both internally and externally. A bachelor’s degree is requisite; an advanced degree is preferred.
