Director of Programs

Mission:  Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania provides essential housing, employment, and other vital supportive services to eligible veterans, services members, and their families to improve their self-sufficiency, sustainability, and quality of life.

Responsibilities:

  • Set, meet and exceed ambitious goals in each of our programs.  For each program/goal, develop measures for the key ‘value’, ‘action’, ‘impact’, and ‘outcomes’ that can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of our programming.
  • Lead and manage the staff on a daily basis.  This includes regular training and embracing a continuous learning environment.
  • Instill a sense of accountability among team members by modeling tight oversight of individual and organization performance standards.
  • Help develop program direction, make presentations, and write proposals to obtain funding.  Update funders on a routine basis.
  • Identify partner agencies that share our values and commitment to serving Veterans and engage them to better serve our at-risk population.
  • Deliver programmatic results that work for our clients and our staff and that advance our mission and vision as stated in our Strategic Plan.

Requirements:

  • Must have a positive, success-oriented attitude with professional demeanor and effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must possess detailed knowledge of each program—the requirements, budgets, and status.  Attention to detail is critically important.
  • Must be sincere and passionate about their work with Veterans.
  • Must be computer literate: Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and Donor/Client Management Software-DonorPro.

  • A Military Veteran with an Honorable Discharge is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in human services is preferred.
  • Act 33 and 34 Clearances.

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services field and at least two years of hands-on team building, team management/leadership experience in human services or related field. 

Reports to:  Executive Director

Hours:  8:30-4:30, Monday through Friday, or as required to meet all deadlines
