Major Gifts Officer, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown - Johnstown, PA

Position Description: This senior administrative position will be the lead executive in the Office of Institutional Advancement with a focus on large gifts.  Incumbent will work in consultation and collaboration with the President and the President’s cabinet.  Incumbent will be responsible for the following: 

  • Qualify prospects at the $50,000 or higher level and make initial contact with new prospects in order to arrange a meeting
  • Determine  prospect capacity and inclination for major gift giving
  • Maintain a schedule of 50+ prospect visits annually
  • Prepare and submit a minimum of six gift agreements each year
  • Prepare and execute gift and pledge endowment agreements
  • Ensure gift proposals meet University priorities
  • Revise agreements to meet donor’s specifications, ensuring they meet legal requirements and are consistent with  University Institutional Advancement Gift Agreement policies and procedures 
  • Prepare and execute stewardship tasks, including  arranging for donors to meet recipients, overseeing gift acknowledgement and appreciation
  • Arrange and facilitate meetings with donors, alumni foundations, grant-makers and interfacing with financial planners as well as on-campus prospects
  • Utilize, manage and leverage related databases (Raiser's Edge database and the Advance Data System) to accurately record and track development and giving activities 

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s preferred.  Must have at least three years experience and success in a major gift environment; Demonstrated evidence of superior verbal and written communications skills; Demonstrated record of extensive contact with major donors, foundations and grant making organizations required; Must be able and willing to travel extensively outside of the Western Pennsylvania area  including weekend travel;  Must have a sophisticated understanding of donor prospect analysis. 

The following is strongly preferred: Candidates with a significant and demonstrable record of securing multiple major gifts above the $50,000 level;  Candidates with at least three years experience in a higher education major gift environment; Candidates with a proven record of direct contact with major gift donors,  experience with major foundations, and experience with academic settings.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
