Writer and Policy Analyst, The Thomas B. Fordham Institute - Columbus, OH

Are you cheerful, bright, eager, able to adapt with the circumstances, pitch in where needed as part of a small (but mighty!) team, and glad to keep pace with a lively, demanding, and rapidly changing work environment? If so, we're looking for you!
The Thomas B. Fordham Institute is a nonprofit education policy, research, and advocacy organization with offices in Washington, DC; Columbus, Ohio; and Dayton, Ohio (where we also authorize charter schools, via the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation). We are currently seeking a Policy Analyst & Writer for our Columbus, Ohio, office.
Specific duties and responsibilities will include:
- Writing opinion pieces and other articles for the Ohio Education Gadfly bi-weekly newsletter, Ohio Gadfly Daily blog, and other publications;
- Keeping yourself – and the Fordham Ohio team – current on K-12 education policy developments in Ohio and across the country;
- Assisting in the development, production, and dissemination of research reports, policy papers, correspondence, and public presentations;
- Accessing and analyzing data, information, and legislation related to K-12 school performance and education policy;
- Attending briefings/meetings/trainings and reporting findings and activities;
- Assisting in planning and coordinating events and meetings;
- Assisting in maintaining website and online database.
The following qualificationsare required:
- Strong interest in education policy;
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus Internet and email savvy;
- Willingness to work hard, learn, and do everything necessary to support your colleagues and the organization; and
- Ability to lead and be part of a far-flung team.
