Job Opening: Program Coordinator (part-time)
Background
About Steps to Independence:
Steps to Independence (formerly Conductive Education of Pittsburgh) is a 12-year-old program whose mission is to make Conductive Education available to children and youth ages 2 to 21 with motor disabilities in Western Pennsylvania. The program is a project of the Tides Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Steps to Independence serves up to 40 participants per year in programs offered at The Children's Institute, Squirrel Hill, and Most Holy Name Activity center, Troy Hill.
About Conductive Education:
Conductive Education is a unique and intensive program for children with motor disabilities. The program helps children use their cognitive abilities in order to move their bodies more functionally and gain greater independence. Teachers in the program -- called “conductors” -- lead small groups of children through activities that help them improve skills in sitting, standing, walking and many other functional activities. Conductors are graduates of a four-year degree training program at the Peto Institute in Budapest, Hungary, and other locations. Conductive Education is currently offered in more than 50 locations in North America, Europe, Israel, New Zealand and Australia.
