Position Description
Summary:
The Development Director is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the board’s development and marketing plan and works directly with the Executive Director. The focus of this position is donor development, individual and corporate giving, the annual appeal, community relations, and event management.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate in shaping development and marketing plan with the executive director, board members, and appropriate staff members; implement the development and marketing plan; achieve the goals set by the Board of Directors Development Committee.
- Source, cultivate and write funding proposals for general operations and special projects. Coordinate all appropriate solicitation follow-up, including grant reporting, gift acknowledgement, and donor recognition.
- Develop and maintain relationships with donors, identify and pursue new funding sources including individual donors, major donors, businesses and corporations.
- Coordinate special events such as the annual breakfast, wine tasting, Mother’s Day Event, etc. with the Executive Director, Program Coordinator, Staff, Board Members and Volunteers.
- Coordinate the recruitment, training and scheduling of volunteers to handle special events, mailings and other organizational needs.
- Oversee all board and staff fundraising efforts, direct mail, personal solicitation, phone solicitation efforts, payroll deduction, Christmas Appeal and other strategies prioritized in the annual plan.
- Participate in community events, manage publication of newsletters, assist in the production of the Annual Report and provide relevant updates for the web site and other social media outlets such as Facebook in order to raise awareness of Sisters Place.
Qualifications:
Require a Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience including 2 years in non-profit development. Strong writing, communication, and computer skills are essential. Prefer a wide general knowledge of fundraising, including institutional giving, government relations, donor cultivation, individual gifts, volunteer and events management, and the ability to devise and implement plans strategically.
