Description:

The Student Conservation Association’s (SCA) Trail Town Outreach Corps (made up of four interns), in partnership with The Progress Fund’s Trail Town Program (www.trailtowns.org), will work with business owners, political leaders, institutional managers, municipalities, residents, and agricultural land owners helping them to understand and fulfill the needs and interests of trail users and identify economic development opportunities.

The Trail Town Outreach Corps consisting of four Corps Members and a Project Leader will work under the direction of the Trail Town Program to implement projects that merge economic and environmental interests in the corridor of towns along the Great Allegheny Passage; bridge partnerships between residents, businesses, and trail visitors; conduct sustainability assessments; coordinate trail town community gardens and farmers' markets, outreach to civic, youth, and school groups; use electronic social media to build community and strengthen awareness; develop multi-modal transportation plans; and design trip packages promoting “all things local.” This year's Corps will need candidates with experience or training in economic development, business, marketing and communication, graphic design, or community planning.

Requirements
Drivers License
US Citizen

Required Skills: 
Over 21 years of age; Strong interpersonal skills; experience using Microsoft Office suite; experience or training in economic development or business; marketing; strong written and verbal communication skills; background in community development; public speaking ability; valid drivers license and a clean driving record (to pass background check); willingness to work as part of a close team; ability to work independently when necessary; commitment to service; strong interest in creating sustainable communities.

Desired Skills: 
Bachelors degree in: Business, Marketing and Communications, Public Policy Analysis, Economics, Public Administration, Urban Studies, Landscape Architecture, or Sustainable Community Development. Experience with volunteer coordination and implementing projects around conservation (recycling, energy, land, or water); background in economic or community development a plus.

Training: 
May include: Wilderness First Aid/CPR; defensive driving; energy, water, and waste assessments; sustainable economic development practices, recycling; green buildings; sustainable agriculture; recycling and solid waste management; water conservation; strategic planning and leadership development; sustainable living; environmental education.

Housing
Description: 
Most likely shared apartment in Connellsville, PA
Details: 
SCA will administer rent and invoice agency: The agency will identify a suitable rental property for the intern and SCA will make arrangements and administer rent to the landlord and bill the agency for their share of the expenses.

Transportation
Personal Vehicle: 
Suggested: Lack of transportation will not be a severe problem for personal travel, but a vehicle will greatly increase participant's enjoyment of the area
