Robert Morris University (RMU), founded in 1921, is one of the leading universities in the Pittsburgh region and among the largest private institutions of higher learning in Pennsylvania. RMU provides a professionally-focused education with an emphasis on engaged learning, and it is one of the most affordable private masters-level institutions in Pennsylvania. The university focuses on changing the lives of its students so that they can in turn change the lives of others. Approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 40 states and 32 countries are enrolled at RMU. The 230-acre main campus in Moon Township, located 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, is home to more than 1,500 resident students. RMU offers 60 undergraduate degree programs and 20 graduate degree programs. It is a teaching-centered institution, featuring small classes taught by faculty members—not teaching assistants—and 83 percent of full-time faculty members hold terminal degrees. The student-faculty ratio is 15:1, and the average class size is 24. RMU invites applications for the position of Vice President for Development reporting to the Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement. The Vice President for Development establishes and cultivates both internal and external relationships to expand, strengthen and diversify a stable donor base. This position personally identifies prospects and solicits planned giving and major gifts. The Vice President for Development will manage and motivate a professional staff and will be a member of the President’s Executive Staff. The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree; Advanced degree preferred. Qualified candidates will possess the following qualifications: an advancement professional with a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in capital campaigns and securing significant major gifts, planned gifts and special fundraising gifts, preferably in higher education; campaign management experience and proven ability to think strategically, plan effectively and manage productively to achieve multiple high-priority goals; commitment to integrating a broad engagement with alumni and other constituencies with an efficient and effective fundraising program; demonstrated ability to provide management, leadership, thought and strategic direction collaboratively with enthusiasm for the mission of the University; communication style that is open and direct; ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in oral and written forms, including the ability to prepare effective key messages for donors; strong organizational skills and ability to influence a diverse donor population; experience managing a professional staff; ability to motivate and develop a team of development professionals; ability to maintain confidentiality; strong interpersonal skills in order to work effectively and collaboratively with team members, diverse internal and external constituents and other publics in a results-based environment; a team player, utilizing and developing relations within and outside the university which will enhance the ability to maximize the attraction of resources; and ability to improve and refine existing programs and develop new programs aimed at attracting resources.
