BACKGROUND
The Oakland Business Improvement District is dedicated to improving the cleanliness, appearance, and perception of safety in Oakland, bringing about revitalization, preserving Oakland’s unique commercial environment, and undertaking marketing and development initiatives to make Oakland a vibrant destination for visitors, residents, owners, employees and students. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs duties and responsibilities which may include the following tasks…

Marketing, Media Relations, and Communications
• Coordinate media and marketing activities that promote the Oakland business district to local and regional audiences (advertising, direct mailing, printing, and special events facilitation).
• Develop, produce and oversee production of print and electronic communications tools that keep
business district constituents informed of local news and activities (newsletter, annual report, website, e-blasts, Twitter, Facebook and My Space).
• Build relationships with editorial staff of local and regional media outlets; continually issue press
releases and editorial pitches about business district news and activities.
• Staff the OBID Marketing Committee and work to implement and update marketing plans.
• Business District Events: Coordinate all OBID events, including mobilizing community participation, fostering community connections and executing projects with community partners.
• Staff the OBID Farmers Market Committee and coordinate the Oakland Farmers Market.
• Performance Measurement: Maintain tools for measuring efficacy of initiatives, such as annual surveys of
local businesses.

Business Outreach and Member Relations
• Build and maintain relationships with business district constituents; provide technical assistance and
referrals to businesses and property owners as needed.
• Publicize information on available property in Oakland thru print and electronic outlets.
• Organize business roundtables to provide information on business development opportunities and development in Oakland.
• Keep informed of economic trends, grant opportunities and policies impacting business and property owners.
• Represent the OBID at community, city? or region?wide events and meetings.
• Oversee volunteer recruitment and activities.

Administration
• Responsible for the effective and efficient performance of all office functions.
• Maintain organizational records and files, photograph files and media clipping files (including electronic, active and archived).
• Maintain and update all organizational databases.
• Attends all Committee and Board meetings, assist with scheduling, and prepares reports, minutes, and agendas.
• Provide administrative support to Executive Director.
• Other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & ABILITIES
Required
• A minimum bachelors degree in marketing, communications/English, or related field. One or more
years of progressively responsible experience in organizing events and in a role combining marketing/communications and creative and client services experience.
• Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail; capacity to maintain a high level of productivity in a fast?paced environment.
• Professional and positive attitude; strong work ethic; ability to work both independently and with a team.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, in both written and verbal communications.
• Web content management experience.
• Must possess a high level of computer skills for all office functions, including but not limited to multiple word processing programs, photo editor programs, publisher programs, multiple spreadsheet programs, website administration, Internet, Facebook, Twitter and email.
• Must be available for evening meetings or other job?related activities.
Recommended
• Strong familiarity with publication processes from conception to printing.
• Familiarity with urban neighborhood revitalization concepts.
• Familiarity with small business development services.

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary for the Marketing and Communications Coordinator is commensurate with experience, education and previous related achievements and ranges between $25,000 and $30,000 per year. The position is full?time. The OBID also offers benefits to full?time employees including Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Long Term disability Insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity plan and paid vacation, sick and personal leave.
