Community Organizer

The Community Organizer will bring our organization's wide range of programs and campaigns 
to both the residents we serve  and the North Side community.  He or she will be part of the
program team, including the Community Liaisons and Service Coordinator  who together will have general responsibility for all programs.

The Community Organizer will work with the community’s resident to develop realistic campaign’s that will improve the neighborhoods or the resident’s quality of life.  The Community Organizer reports to the Executive Director.

The primary role of the Community Organizer will be to develop and maintain the networks of individuals and organizations necessary for the success of NCFH programs and campaigns.  Key elements of these programs/campaigns will include issues involving housing, public schools, women’s issues, and any issues of community and domestic violence.  This may also include fledgling community organizations and community gardens.  Key networks will include Public Housing and Section 8 residents, families facing foreclosure, and victims of street and domestic violence.
This is not an entry level position.

Valuable skills:
* Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing with a wide range of people.
* Experience with diverse population
*Ability to work with grass roots population to plan winning campaigns
*Ability to think strategically, creatively and long range 
* Effective use of computers
* Effective phone manner
* Understanding of how to empower people to work together for the good of the community
* Presentable appearance
* Sensitivity to racial, ethnic and class differences as well as other differences among people with whom he or she will work
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Passion for the potential of all sorts of people
* Ability to communicate community organizing values and practices to team members and incorporate them into program efforts

Important experience:
* Substantial community organizing experience
* College degree not required but relevant college work will be noted
* Knowledge of North Side, its people, and the surrounding area

Compensation is competitive, and will be based on skills and experience.
NCFH expects to fill this position in June 2012.
