Community Sustainability Coordinator, Mount Washington Community Development Corporation – Pittsburgh, PA

The Mount Washington Community Development Corporation (MWCDC) is seeking a full-time Community Sustainability Coordinator to be housed at the MWCDC office on Shiloh Street.  The primary objective of the position is to manage green spaces in areas we serve aiming to engage a wide array of local residents and regional partners in the hands-on management of the green spaces and through a variety of educational events and recreational events.

Primary responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  1. Engage in weeding, watering, mulching, invasive removals, and other maintenance activities in the green spaces in the Grandview Scenic Byway Park, business districts, etc.
  2. Obtain, supervise and manage volunteers when appropriate and necessary.
  3. Organize and run dump site cleanups and trail repair and building exercises, managing volunteer crews when needed.
  4. Help create, organize, manage, promote and carry out Park-related events.
  5. Work closely with youth and community engagement programming, creating and developing programs, ascertaining funding, and handling day-to-day management details.
  6. Keep good records of activities and accomplishments.
  7. Identify potential grant resources, preparing and submitting grants, proposals and other funding requests and grant reports for funding organizations for the GVSBP, business district clean and green initiatives and other activities as assigned.
  8. Promote and maintain relationships with key and potential stakeholders and partner   agencies, including all government, non-profit, funder, and community partners in order to develop the broadest support system possible for greening and engagement activities.
  9. Perform other assigned duties as required for the success of the organization. 

The successful candidate should have a bachelor’s or graduate degree in natural resource management, sustainability, environmental education or equivalent and/or 2-3 years experience in hands-on green space management and education. Other vital skills are excellent verbal and written communications, computer proficiency in MS Office, grant writing, and land preservation methods.
