Qualifications:
Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Special Education, Child Development or a related field.  Experience working with the child welfare system and knowledge of adoption issues and child development are preferable. Experience in providing services for individuals and groups desired with the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.  Computer literacy is required to complete written tasks. Must have relevant experience and like working with children of all ages.

Position summary:
This position provides direct services to children in foster care.  Candidate must be comfortable both working in family’s homes and in the office and have ability to travel to child welfare offices, and client’s homes.  Candidate must have ability to assess and work with children and their families.  This staff position will complete work thru the SWAN network to include Child Preparation and Child Profiles.  As work is referred thru the SWAN network there may be other adoption related activities.  Currently this position is part-time; 22.5 hours per week, equivalent to 3 work days. Prospective candidate must have flexibility to work hours when school age children are available.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provides range of adoption and foster care services to families and children including:  Child Profiles, Child Preparation for children- including writing of Life Books, and Child Specific Recruitment - identifying families for waiting children.
  • Family Preparation, preparation groups for families, post-placement services to families and children, Assist in community outreach efforts including periodic seminars and newsletters.
  • Work cooperatively with professionals from child welfare agencies.
  • Attend in-service training related to foster care and adoption.
  • Provide information and referral services to individuals and couples experiencing infertility and exploring adoption.
  • Attend SWAN meetings and events.
  • Working with the Family Hope Connection staff as a team.
