IMANI MISSION AND BRIEF HISTORY:

Imani Christian Academy is a K-12 intercity School located in the East Hills section of Pittsburgh.

Imani’s mission is to embrace all children in our society, particularly those who are underserved, transform them into whole adults – spiritually, academically, physically and socially – and then launch them into lives of purpose and contribution. 

Imani Christian Academy started in 1993 during a violent time of gang wars in the African-American community of Pittsburgh. Two ministers began walking the streets at night believing that only the love of Jesus and education could change this horrible situation.

The school began in a single-family home with three teachers, thirty students and no financial resources.  With God’s blessing and His resources, Imani is now located  in a building that was the former East Hills Elementary School and has grown to 250 students in grades K-12 and a budget of $3.0 million.

BACKGROUND OF POSITION:

This is a hands on Finance position. The Finance Manager functions as part of a two person Finance Team at Imani. Peachtree Accounting Software is used.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Imani Finance Manager assures that Imani Financial Management is sound and executed with complete integrity. The FM is a member of the Imani Leadership Team and also serves as the direct representative of the Board in the Financial Management of the School.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare financial statements                                                                                         
Communicate finances to the Imani Board and Staff                                                            
Attend Board meetings and present Financial reports                                                           
Prepare the annual budget
Oversee the Annual Financial Audit by an independent CPA firm
Assure that designations of all gifts are honored

Assure that all gifts are used to further the Imani Mission and Purpose
Establish standard tuition rates annually                                                                                
Participate in the preparation of tuition policies
Approve payroll  as part of internal control with the Controller                              
Review and approve check requests that are prepared by other Imani departments         

Manage the Imani benefit plans                                                                       
Participate in the management of Insurance coverage
Receive donor checks, assign revenue category, and copy for Development to thank
Make deposits at bank as part of internal control with the Controller
Provide for appropriate financial and internal controls
Provide for the protection of School assets                                                                                          

ORGANIZATION:

The Imani Finance Manager reports directly to the Imani Head of School

Reporting to the Imani Finance Manager is the Imani Controller

QUALIFICATIONS:

A commitment to the Person of Jesus Christ and to His principles
Demonstrated excellence in Financial Management
Experience in accounting
Dependable with integrity beyond reproach
Capable of handling multiple tasks
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

COMPENSATION:

Salary is in the range of $45,000 to $55,000 depending upon qualifications and experience.
