The Hilltop Alliance is a new organization that connects neighborhood-based organizations and leverages their individual efforts, creating a shared vision and voice for Pittsburgh’s South Hilltop neighborhoods.  Hilltop Alliance seeks its first Executive Director to work in concert with the Board of Directors to provide oversight to all programmatic, financial, and management operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Based on the vision, assist the Board in setting strategic goals and objectives. 
    • Manage the strategic planning process and develop annual work plans.
    • Advise on and assist with implementing board policy, and governance.
  • Engage the community and various constituencies to work together to fulfill the Hilltop Alliance’s work-plan.
  • Manage, design, create, expand, and evaluate community-based initiatives and partnerships, including the Dialogues to Action. Participate in the Hilltop Corridor Working Group.
  • Collaborate with individuals and community groups with specific interests in the work-plan of the Hilltop Alliance.
  • Plan and implement communication strategies to keep various publics including the media informed of the Hilltop Alliance’s successes and goals.
  • Identify new financial resources and obtain and coordinate support from governmental sources, foundations, corporations, intermediaries, and partners to sustain short and long-term objectives. Work to assign dollar value of partners in order to show leveraged funds.
  • Establish operating procedures and carry out administrative responsibilities as required.
  • Staff committees as directed by the Board. Attend meetings including the Board meetings, Hilltop Corridor Working Group, among others.
  • Other duties as mutually determined. Non-traditional hours may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Independent worker with ability to motivate, work well with, and lead others.
  • Experience working in community development and organizing grassroots efforts.
  • Knowledge of community organizing, community planning, and community development principles and practices.
  • Experience working with volunteers, committees, and boards.
  • History of successful fundraising, strategic planning, public relations, website development/maintenance.
  • Commitment to community engagement and positive change in a diverse urban environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer proficient in Office applications.
  • Team-building skills and the ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated record of fundraising from government, corporate, foundation, and intermediary sources.
  • Experience writing, monitoring, and reporting major grants for governmental agencies, intermediaries, as well as private and public foundations. 
  • Experience in board development, management, and engagement.
  • Ability to network with and engage a broad range of constituents including community groups, community leaders, volunteers, funders, politicians, and nonprofit leaders.
  • Knowledge of strategic and long range planning tools for organizational development and the capability to lead an organization through the planning process.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekend and evening hours.

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
A Master’s Degree in community development, public administration, urban planning, social work, social/public policy, or in field related to program activities with 3-5 number of years of experience, or equivalent experience is preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Initially, the successful candidate will function as an Independent Contractor, with the possibility of full-time regular employment as the organization moves forward.  The position will report to the Hilltop Alliance Board of Directors.
