Founded in 2001, GMCT is a non-profit, tax-exempt community foundation serving the greater Morgantown and North Central West Virginia area.  Our mission is to develop, promote and coordinate charitable giving for the long term benefit of the greater Morgantown, West Virginia area. 
Areas of charitable interest include animal welfare, community development, education, health and social services, and sports and recreation.  GMCT’s underlying goal is always to enhance the quality of life for those we serve.

Position Overview:  The Executive Director manages office operations and oversees staff, volunteers, professional advisors and contract labor in administrative, grant making, financial development, and philanthropic activities consistent with the efficient use of GMCT resources.  The Executive Director acts as the representative of the Trust to governmental organizations, the business community, and the public, establishing and implementing current and long-range goals, objectives, strategies, and policies of the Trust, subject to the discretion and approval of the Trust’s Board of Directors.

Principal Responsibilities:

Management                                   

  • Assist the President and GMCT Board of Directors in implementing Board decisions, coordinating the work of six Board committees, in developing goals and long range planning, and in reviewing progress toward goals.
  • Responsible for recruitment, employment and release of employed staff, volunteers, professional advisors and contract labor.  With staff, develops work plans and staff objectives to meet program goals and deadlines.
  • Administers personnel policies and procedure, and professional performance and development.
  • Works with the President and the Investment and Finance Committees to handle all aspects of fiscal management of the endowment and operations budget.
  • Implements and maintain office procedures to insure fiscal control.  Responsible for all aspects of the audit function and tax planning and preparation.
  • Develops and maintains ties with professional organizations, locally and statewide, in the community Trust and philanthropic field.
  • Responsible for overall management of small office building that houses GMCT and rented office space.
  • Ability to manage and develop plans for technology usage to maximize the financial and fundraising capabilities of the community foundation.

Asset Development

  • Maintain a high level of community involvement to develop a network of donor prospects and to develop relationships with local financial advisors.
  • Cultivate, develop, and grow a broad range of funding sources including foundation support, corporate sponsorship, government grants, individual giving, contracted services, special events, and other initiatives to ensure the organization’s fiscal well-being.  Develop active and maintain ongoing relationships with current donors, particularly fund creators.
  • In conjunction with the President and the Development Committee develop and implement a marketing program strategy to inform the community of the Trust and attract funds and donors.
  • Monitor all funds to ensure that donors’ wishes are fulfilled.

Public Relations

  • Represent and serve as spokesperson for the Trust to the general public and to other organizations and entities, maintaining schedule of public engagements.
  • Develop publicity materials and programs to support the Trust’s programs and asset development efforts to support the Development Committee.

Grantmaking and Scholarship Management

  • Works with the Grants and Scholarship Committee chair to develop an understanding of community issues and seek opportunities for the Trust to fulfill its mission through grantmaking programs.
  • Coordinate grant-making and scholarship timelines and develop and maintain policies and procedures to adhere to state and federal requirements and standards for scholarship and grant-making organizations.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of three years of business or non-profit administration experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in non-profit administration, asset/fund development and donor stewardship preferred.
  • Direct experience in working with and supporting a Board of Directors preferred.
  • Knowledge of West Virginia/northern WV business environment.
  • Experienced with all aspects of office technology, including Microsoft Office tools and Quickbooks Financial Management Software.
