Staff Attorney, Education Law Center – Pittsburgh, PA

The Education Law Center is a nonprofit legal advocacy and educational organization founded in 1975, whose mission is to ensure that all Pennsylvania’s children have access to a quality public education. ELC seeks an experienced staff attorney for its Pittsburgh office. This position is expected to become available in October 2011. The attorney will perform a variety of functions both independently and in a team environment, including: traditional legal consultation and representation on individual and systemic issues; administrative and legislative advocacy; utilize varied communication strategies to reach the public and policy makers; cultivate grassroots networks and advocate for education reforms; and develop publications and other materials on issues of public education. The attorney will also have some responsibilities for training, technical assistance and consultation to individuals and community organizations. A substantial portion of the attorney’s time will be devoted to implementation of a new project using the various strategies listed above and focused on school libraries as a key component of the opportunity to learn and a vehicle for education reform.
