Position Summary - The Epilepsy Foundation Western/Central Pennsylvania is seeking candidates for a position that involves the coordination of a federal grant known as the Innovative Strategies in Serving Children & Youth with Epilepsy, Project Access Program administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).  The candidate will serve as the Principal Investigator/Project Director for year two and three of this three-year grant.

The EFWCP’s current project is working to replicate a successful method of care coordination for children who have seizures that was established by Dartmouth Medical School’s Project Access grant, with modifications that reflect the needs and resources of the community and medical system of western Pennsylvania.  This model includes provider and community education, practice-based registries, planned primary care visits, care coordination development and mental health screening with the addition of new technology to screen for early cognitive effects of seizures.

The project is a collaborative partnership between the Epilepsy Foundation of Western/ and Central Pennsylvania, medical providers, community resource providers and the major insurer of the region

Position Title:  Principal Investigator/Project Director

Essential Functions:

  • Investigates, develops, and implements the models of care coordination for pediatric patients that have seizures
  • Coordinates the collaboration of project partners including community-based pediatric practices, specialty care and the EFWCP in replicating the Dartmouth Medical School’s Project Access grant
  • Coordinates monitors and assists partners in gathering data related to the project
  • Manages and evaluates the design, development and coordination of projects
  • Establishes and maintains effective, on-going relationships with individuals and groups responsible for serving persons who have seizures 
  • Establishes and maintains effective, on-going relationships with physicians, health care facilities and other medical professionals, consumer advisory groups and other community service agencies
  • Develops and maintains appropriate types of education, training and presentation materials for use with various groups
  • Acts as a resource to staff to ensure consistency in services provided
  • Develops and utilizes program evaluation tools needed to measure the effectiveness of the EFWCP HRSA project
  • Travels to communities located in central Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh office; attends local or national conferences, seminars as requested

Requirements:
•Master’s degree
•Experience in replicating program models in a health care setting
•Computer literate, including working knowledge of Microsoft software packages, Windows environment, data collection and analysis systems, and the Internet
•Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
•Understanding of basic research principles and the application of measurement to training
