Director of Exhibitions, Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh, PA

Carnegie Museum of Art seeks a director of exhibitions who will be responsible for the administration of all aspects of the museum’s ambitious program of in-house and loan-based temporary exhibitions (14-16 exhibitions annually), as well as on-going presentations of the permanent collection. Specific duties include contracts, budgeting, cost-estimating, scheduling, and overseeing design, lighting, production/fabrication, audio-visual, and space planning. A relevant academic degree in art, design, or management and a minimum of five years experience managing complex museum-based exhibitions are required. A master’s-level degree is preferred. The candidate will be a resourceful problem-solver with superior leadership, interpersonal, and communications skills, along with experience in organizational planning and budgeting. Must be able to deliver projects on time, on budget, and under pressure. Must have experience in all facets of exhibition planning and implementation, including facility with a wide variety of subject matter, presentation modes, and technology tools. Experience with contemporary art is highly desirable. Must be able to work with and supervise colleagues from diverse backgrounds in a team-oriented environment. Knowledge about the exhibitions field, including familiarity with professional counterparts and exhibitions programs at museums nationally and internationally, is essential.
