The Senior Director of Major Gifts is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing and providing stewardship to prospects and benefactors, both individuals and businesses, capable of making major gifts to further the mission of Carlow University. 

Reporting directly to the Vice President for University Advancement, the Senior Director of Major Gifts will develop an overall major gifts plan for the department, and will acquire, renew and upgrade major donors in his/her individual portfolio.   

Carlow University is in the preliminary phase of a comprehensive campaign and the Senior Director of Major Gifts will work closely with the development staff and key campaign volunteers to meet the goals of the campaign.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with Master’s preferred.
  • 4 years of major gifts experience is required with relevant experience in cultivating, soliciting, closing and stewarding donors and with increasing levels of responsibility and a documented track record of soliciting gifts in the high five-to-seven figure range.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed. Position requires 60- 70% time in face-to-face visits. Extensive travel is required both in Western Pennsylvania and nationally.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget process and ability to develop and to work within a defined budget.
  • Demonstrated previous supervision of development officers is expected.
  • Demonstrated holding of high ethical standards aligned with the Donor Bill of Rights and the AFP Code of Conduct.
