Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week. The nature of the position will require the availability of limited travel and time at agency special events and other activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Development Officer reports to the CEO and is responsible for grant writing and reporting; annual fund development and cultivation of individual donors and development/planning of special events.
The Development Director serves as the chief development officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh by coordinating and overseeing all aspects of fundraising, agency communications, and public relations. Areas of responsibilities include: special events, donor acquisition and cultivation, donor recognition, annual appeal campaign, corporate drive, foundation grant requests and reporting, United Way Contributors Choice, and planned/individual giving program. The Development Director also oversees media relations to promote fundraising events and activities.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Significantly grow individual donor program
- With the assistance of the CEO and the Fund Development Committee, develops and implements the agency’s annual development plan and schedule. The annual development plan and schedule shall include individual giving campaign, special event fundraisers, donor communications, corporate solicitation,
- Supervises the planning and production of all special event fundraisers, including Bowl For Kids Sake, Corporate Roast, and possibility of additional special events. Solicits directly for sponsorships, participants, prizes, and ticket sales and coordinates the same with staff, board members and others.
- Helps to develop a volunteer base for the agency to assist with special events and other fundraising activities. Serves as the staff liaison to the Fund Development Committee and other special events committees.
- Supervises ongoing donor record keeping, documentation, and acknowledgement of donations through Donor Pro software. This includes all types of donations, including in-kind, memorial and gifts given in honor of an individual.
- Researches and coordinates all aspects of grant requests to private and corporate foundations and trusts as well as public sources. Oversees budgeting and reporting to grantors.
- Assists board members in fulfilling their fundraising expectations and personal pledges to the agency.
- Serves as the agency’s liaison with the United Way for the Contributors Choice, and promotes the agency’s donor designation codes to the general public.
- Oversees donor acquisition, cultivation and recognition. Directly solicits major donors and board members. Maintains ongoing communications with major donors. Insures prompt recognition of all donors and special recognition as necessary.
- Coordinates the implementation of the agency’s planned giving program.
- Establishes and promotes general donations through the agency’s website.
- Oversees the production and mailing of the Annual Report, printed materials for special events, and other non-program related publications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate would demonstrate knowledge of how to strengthen and grow individual giving, the corporate and foundation philanthropy program, positioning BBBS to raise significant money through complex, multifaceted, high quality relationships. The successful candidate will also possess the following:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred
• Strong writing skills necessary
• 5-7 years of work experience with a proven track record of success in corporate and foundation fundraising, ideally in a non-profit environment.
• Government Grant Experience
• Superior knowledge of corporate and foundation relations, prospect research and stewardship.
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel
