Branch Manager for West Virginia, Arthritis Foundation - Charleston, WV

POSITION PURPOSE
The Manager for the West Virginia Branch of the Arthritis Foundation is responsible for implementing and managing multiple projects in public health, advocacy, and development throughout the state.  This position raises funds through community development with activities determined by the market’s Plan of Work and contributes to Ohio River Valley’s and Great Lakes Region’s financial health by securing revenue from individual, corporate, foundation and special event fundraising strategies.  This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Vice President Ohio River Valley.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Within the Arthritis Foundation
Works with the Regional Vice President of the Ohio River Valley market, the Director of Development, the Director of Health Promotion and Advocacy, and the Major Gifts Director and other region staff. Identifies, recruits, trains, and cultivates volunteers to attain organizational objectives.

Outside the Arthritis Foundation
Cultivates contacts and relationships outside the Foundation in order to maintain positive associations with existing partners and to cultivate new ones.  This may include individual donors, corporate and medical partners, foundations, vendors, volunteers and community leaders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops and executes an annual fundraising plan to meet the financial needs of the West Virginia Branch and to maximize mission delivery in the branch area.  The fundraising plan will incorporate any individual, corporate, foundation and special event fundraising strategies, including a Charleston Arthritis Walk.
  2. Possesses a solid command of the Arthritis Foundation’s mission, programs, and offerings and can articulate the benefits of Arthritis Foundation initiatives to potential community partners and sponsors. 
  3. Works with the Ohio River Valley Health Promotion staff and others to identify ways to increase reach in West Virginia.
  4. Interfaces with arthritis patients seeking resources.
  5. Travels throughout West Virginia as a representative of the Arthritis Foundation to network and build contacts.  Meets with the business community and health care providers.
  6. Serves as liaison to the Juvenile Arthritis Alliance Network.
  7. Participates on statewide committees as appropriate, such as the Committee for Chronic Disease Self-Management (CDSM) and the WVDHHR Osteoporosis and Arthritis Committee.
  8. Builds and maintains a donor cultivation program with mid-level and higher donors.  Works with Major Gifts Director and others to identify and cultivate major donor prospects.
  9. Acts in the best interest of the Arthritis Foundation to enhance the Foundation’s public image.
  10. Executes public relations strategies to increase brand recognition of the Arthritis Foundation in the branch area.  Strategies should increase awareness of the Arthritis Foundation’s public health programs, advocacy opportunities, special events and local mission based offerings.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY

  1. Builds a Plan of Work, with collaboration from the Regional Vice President, Director of Development, and the Director of Health Promotion and Advocacy and others.
  2. Recruits, cultivates, trains, and manages volunteers that will meet and exceed goals for mission-based activities and community development.  Staffs committees as needed to promote the Arthritis Foundation and generate arthritis awareness.
  3. Provides primary coordination for the West Virginia Advisory Committee.
  4. Manages financial resources within the established budget to ensure good stewardship.
  5. Adheres to Arthritis Foundation reporting guidelines for all records, data and information requests.
  6. Handles all matters regarding management of the West Virginia branch.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education – BS Degree. Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, presentation, marketing and networking – and demonstrated ability to achieve results through others.  Strong time management, project management, event management, and meeting management skills.  Experienced fundraiser with positive track record.  Ability to cultivate and maintain long-term donor/customer relationships.  Ability to assess income development and growth potential in new and existing markets.  Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision.  Ability to problem solve and respond to changing circumstances.  Ability to interface with arthritis patients with compassion and sensitivity.  Proficient knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office software, internet based applications and computer equipment.  Health background helpful.  Frequent travel throughout the state of West Virginia and occasional travel within states in Great Lakes Region.  Ability to lift 25 pounds and possesses valid drivers license.  Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
