Have you discovered total resources?

By Shawn Sheridan, Dewey & Kaye

"The greater the change in external forces – government policies, economic and social conditions – the greater the need for internal strength and flexibility. Not every nonprofit survives. The established fail along with the new. Those that make it have a number of characteristics in common. Perhaps foremost is the ability to make the most of community resources."

This quote comes from Discover Total Resources, an award-winning resource development guide for nonprofit organizations created by Mellon Financial Corporation (now Bank of New York Mellon) and rings as true today as when it was first published in 1985. The guide's purpose was to serve as a self-audit for nonprofit leaders to evaluate the degree to which they are leveraging a range of community resources: people, money, services and goods.

Career Moves & the Nonprofit Sector

Wednesday, November 10, 2010
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Downtown & Business
612 Smithfield St.
10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Presenter: Our very own – Michelle Pagano Heck

Have you thought about leaving the business sector to enter the nonprofit job market? Individuals may look to make a career transition to find more meaningful work or do something that makes a difference. Or, in today's economy, prolonged unemployment may have a person seeking new professional avenues.

Why do you want to shift sectors?
How do you get started in the transition?
How can you represent your skills, competencies and talents through your resume?
How do you gain the skills needed to be successful in the nonprofit sector?
How do you do a full job search?

This session will address these questions and give you the opportunity to ask the burning questions you have about career transitions and the nonprofit sector. The training will also be relevant to those already working in a nonprofit who want to learn how best to advance their careers.

Whether you are at the entry level or a veteran expert in the field, the Homes within Reach Conference is your opportunity to get up to speed on all the changes that affect your job, to share best practices and inspiring new ideas, and to advance your professional goals, both individual and organizational. It is a priceless opportunity to connect with others who share your passion and appreciate your challenges.

Our very own Leslie Bonner will be speaking at this Conference. Leslie will be speaking at the following workshop:

Building Health and Effective Leadership TEAMS
